Magical Capri (Capri Part 1)

Being on Capri island is akin to a waking dream. The whole island enchants its visitors- from its mysterious grottos to its infinite blue hues to its lively floral and fauna, there is never a dull moment in Capri.

The island offers a plethora of activities ideal for an energetic holiday!

These are the unmissables:

#1: Take the chairlift up to Monte Solaro

This has to be one of the most awesome rides ever (even though I am usually quite afraid of heights, I am glad I made the trip up!)

Overcoming fear...

**Tip: Bring a plastic bag to put your slippers in if you do not wish to lose them on the way up.
Also check the price of the tickets with your hotel, it might be cheaper to purchase from the hotel as some hotels offer a 10% discount.

The ride up...

The view on the way up…
The view that greets you after the 10 minutes ride up…
An infinite blue.... It's so SURREAL!!

So happy and grateful to be here...

No filter...
The Nature on Capri is so alive...
Nature speaks to us in ways we don't even realize...

Wonder how the cat got up...
Solo chairlift ride... it was pretty fun actually, and my fear turned into something I really enjoyed!

#2 : Grotto Azzurra (The Blue Grotto)

This was definitely one of the places to see on my bucket list for a really long time and I wasn't disappointed!

There are basically two routes to the grotto you can choose from...

Route 1 : An hour boat ride tour + blue grotto
which is 18 Euros (boat ride tour) + 13 Euros (entrance fee to grotto) + 10 Euros (usually the minimum tip for the gondola man)

Route 2 : Bus ride from Anacapri + Blue Grotto
which is 1.80 Euros (bus fare to Grotto Azzurra end stop) + 13 Euros (entrance fee to grotto) + 10 Euros (usually the minimum tip for the gondola man)

The latter will save you some money if you decide to give the boat ride around the island a miss.

As I was staying at Anacapri, the best option for me was to go by the bus to the grotto.

Visitors eagerly awaiting their turn to visit the grotto.

We need to hop on one of the gondolas which are small enough to enter the grotto...

The grotto felt very much like a sacred, magical place. The experience was out of this world. I loved every second of the mere 5 minutes ride inside.

My first time being in a sea cave....

The phenomenon of the grotto is created by sunlight passing through an underwater cavity which creates a blue reflection that illuminates the cave.

**Tip: It is best visit the grotto during the noontime when the sun is up in the sky as the reflection is illuminated by the sunlight entering the little opening to the cave.

**Tip: The gondola man will recommend you to on your flash for pictures, which i will not recommend as it leads to an overexposure in the dark cave. My pictures were all taken without flash.
Watch the entire grotto experience in the video below in FULLSCREEN ::

One off my bucket list! :-)

#3 : Explore Anacapri

Away from the maddening crowd is a quick and picturesque bus ride up to Anacapri from Capri. The historical centre of Anacapri perched on a high plateau above Capri town is quite the opposite from the Piazetta of Capri. Anacapri is much quieter and truly epitomizes the essence of the island. Generally the accomodation and restaurants here are less expensive too. Anacapri is the genuine side of Capri where you will see the island's residents resting and watching the world go by on the pretty ceramic benches.

Besides, there is just something deeply alluring about discovering the secret gardens brimming with pretty blooms in Anacapri's private residences.

Step into another dimension of secret gardens...

And end the gorgeous day on the island with garden dining...

Dining in Anacapri is definitely quieter and cozier than Capri...
Fresh pasta ....

TBC...
